How many of you believe that what we know does not matter, but what we do matters the most? In this article, I am going to show you ways to attain permanent peace and happiness by following some simple habits. Let me start with one of my favorite stories.
Long ago, there was a beggar named Ramu. He was living in a village called Mayapur. It was a beautiful morning. As per his daily routine, he was begging on village roads. Suddenly, Ramu was stuck seeing a tall, bright man. The man was traveling in a gold chariot. Ramu was lost in a dream seeing the man’s bright, fascinating look and dresses.
He asked himself, “who is this king”? He hoped that from the chariot, the king will throw gold and diamonds. All of those he will grab alone. He thought he would not have to beg anymore. The chariot stopped in front of Ramu. The bright person came down with a smiley face.
He asked Ramu, “Please give me something”.
Ramu wondered, “Has the king become mad? Someone who has everything is asking from me, from a beggar?” He was standing foolishly, and could not understand what to do.
The bright man asked again, “Please give me something”.
Ramu gave a small piece of rice from his old cotton bag. The bright man thanked and left in his chariot.
In the evening, after finishing his begging, Ramu returned home. Like every other day, he was keeping the rice he had collected. He was stuck seeing a small piece of gold in the rice. The poor man didn’t take time to understand that in the morning what he had given to the king; got it back as gold. Ramu started crying and rueing “Why didn’t I give my everything?”.
Anything we give comes back to us in some form. In our daily life, we stay like a beggar. We always expect from other people. The whole day we are begging for appreciation, respect, trust, and understanding from others. When we meet someone, we think a hundred times before giving a smile. We wait for the other person to smile first and then we smile back. In our close relationships, we always expect to get but are not ready to give anything. But those people who are really kind-hearted and ready to give everything to others to change society and the world.

Bill Gates
My grandsons might struggle to remember my name, but they would definitely remember the name of Bill Gates. They will remember him not only for his success story in the computer world but for his kind heart as well. He donated large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, reported to be the world’s largest private charity. In 2009, Gates and Warren Buffett founded The Giving Pledge, whereby they and other billionaires pledged to give at least half of their wealth to philanthropy. The foundation says that it works to save lives and improve global health, and is working with Rotary International to eliminate polio. As per TNW’s recent news, Bill Gates committed $750M to help Oxford vaccinate the world against COVID-19.
Though Bill Gates has been donating a huge amount of money, his wealth is not reducing at all. He is receiving blessings from millions of beneficiaries across the world and still keeping the position of one of the richest persons in the world.
Malala
As a girl, I feel very proud when I read, listen to, and tell the story of my favorite hero, Malala Yousafzai. We all know that she started writing about girls’ education when she was just 12 years. Through her speeches in public places, she asked girls to go to school and get an education. She was getting an education, but others were not. Malala raised her voice for the other girls. The furious Taliban shot her. She was unconscious for 10 days at the hospital. After recovering, she did not stop. The brave girl continued writing, giving interviews in print and on television. She asked nothing for herself. She fought for others. In 2014, at the age of 17, she received the Nobel prize for peace as the youngest person in history. If we do good for others, definitely good will happen to us.
My story
The above two outstanding personalities always inspire me to think about the problems of others. At the beginning of the lockdown, one fine morning, two garbage collector ladies came to our doorstep without wearing face masks. I asked why they didn’t wear face masks. One of them replied, “it is not available in the shop”. On the same day, I made two cloth masks for them. The next day, when I gave them the masks, they became happy. They told me “thank you, Didi”. Immediately, a formal relationship converted to a heart relationship. Gradually I made face masks for all of them. I am grateful to them that they gave me the opportunity to do something good for them. Nowadays, when a new garbage collector lady comes, they tell her “see this Didi made masks for all of us. If you need, she will make them for you too”. This sentence is a big prize for me. I feel the real peace and happiness, which we all are searching for.
In the middle of the lockdown, we needed regular medicine for my in-laws. We ordered online in Medplus as usual. In that situation, they denied giving home delivery. We had a fear of going out to the Medplus store to collect the medicine. We were searching for delivery guys and were worried as the medicine supply was about to finish. A few days later we got a contact number from the internet who was giving volunteer service. We asked for help. The next day, they delivered our medicines. Though we offered, he did not take any money.
There is a beautiful proverb “If you help others to solve their problems, no need to worry about your problem. There will be someone to solve your problem”.
Conclusion
I used to always think I don’t have billions like Bill Gates. I can’t help others. Like me, for people who have these thoughts, I would like to tell them, it’s very important to have a rich heart to help others, there is no need to be a rich person. Decide today to help others.
Everyone we meet is fighting a battle that we know nothing about. Do not hide the treasures in your heart for fear that people will steal them. Instead, share and find them multiply. Giving with no expectation is one way to permanent peace and happiness which we are looking for. Be kind and helpful. Let’s invest the energy of empathy and love in the people around us. We will get the same back when we need it the most. It’s extremely important because we can’t hug our bank balance or property, we need our loved ones. Keep sharing and be happy.
