The recent century has seen the greatest destruction of the planet’s environment. To gauge the stability of Earth, we have crossed seven of the nine planetary boundaries:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Extreme\u00a0weather\u00a0and\u00a0warmth\u00a0were\u00a0caused\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0atmospheric\u00a0CO2\u00a0concentration\u00a0surpassing\u00a0the\u00a0350\u00a0ppm\u00a0(parts\u00a0per\u00a0million)\u00a0barrier. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Integrity of Biosphere<\/strong> (Biodiversity) (Breached)<\/strong> \ud83d\udd34<\/strong>
    The\u00a0condition\u00a0of\u00a0life\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0planet. The rates\u00a0of\u00a0extinction is\u00a0100\u20131000\u00a0times\u00a0greater\u00a0than\u00a0the\u00a0background\u00a0rate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Land-System Change (Breached)<\/strong> \ud83d\udd34<\/strong>
    The\u00a0quantity\u00a0of\u00a0natural\u00a0land,\u00a0particularly\u00a0forests,\u00a0that\u00a0is\u00a0transformed\u00a0for\u00a0human\u00a0use\u00a0(cities,\u00a0agriculture)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Freshwater Change (Breached)<\/strong> \ud83d\udd34<\/strong><\/strong>
    Large-scale\u00a0irrigation,\u00a0damming,\u00a0and\u00a0climate-driven\u00a0droughts\u00a0violate\u00a0both\u00a0blue\u00a0and\u00a0green\u00a0water\u00a0boundaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Biogeochemical Flows (Breached)<\/strong> \ud83d\udd34<\/strong>
    We currently dump huge amounts of fertilizer into soils, which washes into oceans, creating massive “dead zones” where marine life cannot survive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    The\u00a0great\u00a0majority\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0estimated\u00a0350,000\u00a0different\u00a0kinds\u00a0of\u00a0artificial\u00a0compounds\u00a0available\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0market\u00a0have\u00a0never\u00a0undergone\u00a0environmental\u00a0safety\u00a0testing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
